I have a speaker 89 db rated to handle 175 watts into 8ohms. I am thinking of adding 250 watt amp to these speakers. Will this cause any damage to speakers with moderate to moderately high volume? Thanks for the help

Nope. It should be fine.

In fact, if you bought an amp that was lower than 175W and pushed it too hard, that would be more likely to damage your speakers. Overdriving an amp will cause distortion and clipping that can damage the speakers.
