I think I read something about this, but it was a very long time ago.

Ok, I've noticed on alot of old and especially cheaper loudspeakers that near the center of the cone often there are two wires glued there that protrude out from undernieth the dust cover. I was wondering, doesnt this configuration create an imbalance in how the speaker performs because the the wires are only on one side of the cone?

And on new speakers that dont have the wires glued to the cone, I was wondering, how do the manufactures make them without the wires and what are the benifits of not having the wires?

What your seeing there is where the voice coil attaches to the leads to the voice coil. Most of todays speakers are still made just like this, Only the dust cover, covers over it for a cleaner look. Some drivers have different ways of attaching everything but this way is mostly what you'll see on non subwoofer drivers.

Looks like a nice KLH woofer.

If you look at the under side of the cone, from the side, you'll see how the wires run. Any effects from the added mass from the wires is negligable. They aren't visible on many speakers because they use a bigger dust cap. You can't make a cone-type of speaker without attaching wires from the voice coil to the terminals.

I wonder how they do it with speakers that have Phase Plugs?
