Hi All!

I recently saw a video where on the new “X” series of receivers from Denon, they have the option of having active amplications for all channels, while having L/R in Pre-mode.

Does anybody think this a bit of a short sighted option? I would think that option would’ve come in a L/C/R pre-mode & amplification for the rest

Could this be pushed with a firmware update?

Planning in using (3) PA Speakers as L/C/R. Specifically QSC K12.2

I think you misunderstand the overall situation/concerns as to normal pre-out values vs those when using a particular "pre-amp" mode.. I have a pre-X series flagship with the pre-amp mode but have no need for it for a few reasons (afaik mine is all use of external amps or not)....primarily it's not that big of a deal without the dedicated "pre-amp" mode enabled for all/particular channels. If you want the avr with the most flexibility as to this feature per channel you'll need the 8500 or A1H

What’s preamp mode ? Not that I’ll ever be able to afford such fancy receivers.. is that incase avr isn’t powerful enough..

I thought pro speakers also used less power to the op . Do you need such an expensive avr for pro gear? Which speakers are you using .
X series is something new I see. Not much power for price on this model . https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/av-receivers/avr-x2800h?gclid=Cj0KCQiAwJWdBhCYARIsAJc4idDixbJW9HwogGGIbso7ozEB1KK7SLmEfQcLvgg-fsew4UsVoskcPc0aAt7KEALw_wcB

Pre-amp mode on some Denon avrs will basically turn off some internal circuitry for the on-board amps. You can check out the reviews of the Denon 3700 and 4700 on audiosciencereview and see the measurements of the regular pre-out vs the pre-out in "pre-amp" mode. The pre-amp mode is slightly cleaner and a lot of fuss is being made over it. Unfortunately Amir/ASR called it clipping at 1.4V, which it really isn't, altho in pre-amp mode it is a bit cleaner up to a slightly higher pre-out voltage.
