I currently have an epic 80 system on order. I have an behringer a500 amp and a elite84. the question is can i bi-amp them (a pair of m80's that are 4ohm and have a 600 watt power handling)using the receiver and amp or will using preouts eliminate the power coming from the receiver . If this could be done it would be so helpful because i wouldnt have to turn on the a500 all the time(it doesnt work with ir codes) and i would have major wattage going to my speakers

so currently you are not using the A500 on your speaker?

if not, just connect the A500 only and listen to them again ...
btw, you can either:
1) leave the A500 always ON
2) turn it ON and OFF everytime
3) build a 12v relay (but this is much more complicated)

I would think bi-amping would be useless.

If you wire properly for bi-amplification, you will lose a portion of the speakers output depending on which section (Hi/Lo) is wired to the amp when it is turned off.

Amp power on

For the Amp, consider buying a power center that includes switched outlets. When the receiver turns on, the Amp will turn on. I would try the M80's with the single A500. If you want more power, buy a second A500 to biamp the mains.

Yes, the 3500 should work. You'll need to read the manuals for proper connections and setup configurations.

The hookup will be something like this:

Plug the receiver power into the receiver unswitched outlet on the center.
Plug the amps into the switched outlets on center.
Connect trigger from the receiver to center.
Make other connections as appropriate.

The unswitched outlets allow constant power to the receiver. When the receiver is switched on, it triggers the center to allow power to the switched outlets turning on the amps.

To the OP, don't be concerned about having the amplifier on while nothing is being fed to the amplifier. The speakers are taking minimal wattage when no signal is fed to the amp. The power consumption should be low, maybe less than 50 watts, in idle. No damage will be done to the speakers or amp if they are left on.

To clarify, I am refering the amplifier power being on full-time, not the bi-amp bridge on the Axioms, as Mtryoda said.;) I had to say that for liability reasons.:D
