Can I use my subwoofer from my computer on my home theatre system. From another thread I started, I found out my home theatre needs an active sub. I don't use my computer for audio at all. The sub woofer has a connection that looks like S-Video and the receiver has a RCA plug?

no reason you can't but does your sub amplify the signal for all your computer speakers?

How would I tell. I have one cable from the back of the computer going into one desktop speaker, and wires from this one into the sub and other desktop one. There is a volume control on the sub.

hmm....the only think I can think of is take it apart and see what you have, but realistically, you probably arent going to be happy with the result even if you can get it hooked up b/c your other speakers will overpower it, If its a computer sub, its probably only like a 6.5 inch woofer and like a 40 watt amp, so your probably back to square 1, either buy an amp/receiver and power your passive sub, or buy a new active sub made for home theater

While you may prefer one, I doubt you NEED an active (or any) sub for your HT.

Most receivers* allow you to choose a "no sub" option somewhere on the menu system. This will channel all lows to the other speakers in your system.

You can add a real powered sub at some time in the future but in the meantime you can avail yourself of all the other fine things a HT has to offer.

Unless you can get some info on what those wired going into the sub do, I wouldn't get your hopes up. That, plus it would most likely disappoint big time. That's not a subwoofer. That's a common bass box for a three piece system. Big difrerence.

*I don't know your particular receiver but virtualy all I've encountered allow this
