cable Co provided DVR - a DCH3416.
It has a USB port up front and I am hoping enough connectors/ports in the back.
So- any way to transfer shows to my PC then via a software called Handbrake onto my iTouch?

And /or would I need Pinnacle's Video Transfer device.

Thx

I would doubt it. It is against the rules to output HD content for record. It can only output from HDMI with all the handshake issues and that will prevent recording.

There may be the odd cable box that lets your record SD, but I'm not aware of one. You can only records from analog connections, in real time.

there are a few hacks that can, but they include hardware, do you have a firewire output? The only way without a hack is to due a record-transfer real time otherwise you need to access the directory, which involves hardware.

I called my cable company to inquire about this, as I was looking to build a HTPC, and was told that the USB ports on my cable box weren't even active.

Maybe they're just saying this to keep people from trying it, but who knows?
