hello everyone.

I have 7.1 system but room is limited. Normally you will place the sofa away from the rear wall and place the rear speakers behind the sofa. but my sofa will have to be against the rear wall (space is limited). I dont know where to place the rear speakers. Middle speaker will be close to the rear wall and it is at viewer ear level. I am wondering if I can hang the rear 7.1 above the viewer. will this work?

I put mine right behind the couch. It works great for me. Here is a pic now but the seats used to be up against the wall...

Sitting against the wall, no it would not work too well. Sitting against the wall is never really going to go hand in hand with good sound period. Your side surrounds will not work well the way you are showing in that image either; they are also going to reflect directly off the back wall and be too close to the listener.

Any advice? how would you do it if distance from front to rear is limited? picture attach is from dolby site. I can not afford to move sofa up 3 feet so if I cant move the sofa? why not the rear speakers up 3ft?

I'd disconnect the rears. They are more trouble than it's worth in this configuration. It's ok. I had to disconnect mine too for my current setup.

Few movies are 7.1

On the floor facing up behind the couch? You could put them in the corners and put the side surrounds above you as well. Looks like you might have to experiement some to find what sounds best.

Sorry, but it works great for me, the OP should try it and see what he thinks. Just saying it won't work is, well just not correct.
