Can I play DTS files from USB on Pioneer receiver as Samsung UHDTV don't support DTS?

Hi,

I have a Samsung tv UHDTV series 8 and a Pioneer VSX-934 receiver. I have a few portable drives and some DTS movie files on them, I can't play the audio on my tv and after doing some research online I found out that Samsung tv don't support DTS anymore. I was wondering if there was a way to play the DTS audio tracks directly to the receiver speakers when I select the optical sound output.

Thanks for your help,

Serge

Audio, yes video no.
Hi, thanks for your message. I know I can play various type of audio files when I connect a USB portable drive to the receiver and I can play most of the MKV video files on a portable drive to the tv. I was just wondering if I could transfer the audio file of a MKV DTS audio track to play directly to the receiver instead of the tv...

You have DTS Audio encoded movies on file that you want to play via the USB port on your receiver? If that is correct, you probably won't be able to do that.

Thanks for your message. No I didn't mean that. I know I can't play any video files on the USB port of the receiver only audio files. I was just wondering if it would be possible for the receiver to play the audio DTS sound from the MKV file as it doesn't work on the tv, may be in changing some settings in the receiver or TV or HDMI connections of the receiver and the TV?

I'd pick up a bluray player that can, or just get media server and play it from your home network (some bluray players can do both).

Well I guess for the meantime I'm going to continue converting those DTS files to AC3 and add the converted audio files with MKVToolnix, it's just a pain and time consuming when you have to do that with several seasons of a tv show... Hopefully the PS5 media player will have DTS Support....

Are you opposed to buying a blu ray player before they completely leave the market?

If you are using pirated files, playstation uses copyright protection FWIW.
