I have an Onkyo PR-SC5508 "AV Controller". It is set up to be a 9.2 system. All 9 speaker pre-outs are in use as well as the 2 subwoofers pre-outs. BTW, I call this setup the "Tribute To Phil Spector before-he-became-a-lunatic Wall of Sound."
Now I find I have access to 2 more passive subwoofers and an extra Parasound 2 channel amp that could power them. Of course, the problem is that the Onkyo only has pre-outs for Subs #1 and #2 and they are in use.
Well...maybe there are more sub pre-outs! The Onkyo also has outputs for two other "Zones"-- Zones 2 and 3. Each of those Zones has its own analog pre-out for a subwoofer. I was wondering if I could take the pre-outs from each of those and send it to my Parasound amp and send the signal on to these two extra passive subwoofers. Now I am up to 9.4 -- just have all the speakers and subs (all 3 Zones) in the same room! The Onkyo will, I believe, allow all Zones to be playing the same music and even allow the remote to control all Zone volumes. I would not (at least for now) be also using any other pre-outs for Zones 2 and 3, just the subwoofer outs --(would that hurt?) Anyone see any problems here with what I propose?
