Can I join speaker cables together without any loss?

Hi.

I'm going from bi-wired B&W's to single-wirable Dynaudios.

I will have extra runs of the QED Silver Aniversary, and I'd like if possible to use these to make the cable run longer so that I can get the cable under the carpet and out or the air(at the moment the bi-wired are to short and travel through the air to reach the speakers)

What I'm wondering is can I simply twist to runs of cable together to get one run. I know it will work, but I'm wondering if there will be any noticable or theoretical loss of signal quality? (Obviously at the join the twisted pattern of the cable will be broken, and for and inch or so there would be no plastic jacket insulating the cables)

Many thanks

It would propably be ok, but I would worry about the cables sperating. I would head down to Radio Shack or Home depot and get some 12 or 14 guage speaker wire, cut it to the right length and then I would not have to worry about it.

As long as you have a good tight/secure connection between the two wires it would be fine. If I were you, I would buy some little sleeve crimps and some shrink tubing. Crimp and then protect with the tubing. I say use this method since it sounds like the wire will be under carpet and possibly subject to foot pounding when people walk over the wire. Sleeve crimps and shrink tubing would be low profile and not bulky like twisting wire together or wire cap connectors.

thanks for the reply.

i'll try the crimping method. dont want to waste some decent cable.(no radioshack or cheap options where i'm at now(Denmark))

you might want to seperate your crimps on the wire by six or eight inches, just in case something does turn loose, you won't have a dead short waiting to happen.
