Can I get better sound this way?

I am currently using Proton D1200 dual mono amps in my system. I listen to music and HT equally. I know the D1200's are powerful and seem to be clean but they are 15 years old. I have been looking at Monster amps to match some other Monster equipment I have but haven't pulled the trigger yet. I have 2 pairs of ESS AMT4's speakers. They basically have a 10" driver and a heil tweeter. Their not great on the bottom but sound awesome everywhere else. Plus I have powered subs to handle the lows.

Without spending a ton of money---can I improve on the D1200's? I don't have to buy new if there is an amp out there that shines above the rest. Plus I don't want to waste my money on the Monster amps and only realize a minimal improvement. I know this is a broad question relying on opinions but hopefully someone has had some experience with the protons and can tell me which direction to go.

Thanks Brett

Don't do it.(IMO)
But if you do, PM me immediately to purchase your Protons.

I just read some posts on the beringer A500 for like $200?? I can get more than that out of my D1200's used. I have 5 D1200's and 2 D1150's and one 6 channel 700 watt Proton amp. I watch ebay and when I see a good deal on the D1200 I buy it. The problem is I think Proton is belly up? I can't find any info on the D1200 or a website to find the specs. I am not unhappy with the Proton amps, just thought maybe an upgrade would yield better sound. Maybe not?

Anyone know if Proton audio is still around?

I think not. Back in the 80's, I used Proton amps in car audio with a/d/s speakers. Talk about sweet. Then I got into Linear Power with MB Quart. I sure wish Linear Power made home amps.

Just like the ESSs, till death do you part with the Protons. The ESSs do love the power, I can almost imagine what your system sounds like with the dual centers.

The Proton amps will eat that behringer for breakfast. They are far superior. You aren't going to find anything new with that kind of power under $300/ch.
Plus the Protons look sweet.

Just because they are 15 years old doesn't mean anything other than it is 15 years old. I am sure the specs on them will be below threshold of detection.

And, when one dies, you have ebay to buy another. LOL:D
