Can Center speaker be used as surround sound?

Using them as surrounds would be fine. However, do to their unique driver layout; I'm not sure if it would be best to place them vertically, or horizontally in order to obtain the best dispersion.

If you've already got them, use them. If you don't like the way they perform you can always replace them. I'd probably try to mount them horizontally, as that's most likely how they were designed to be used. But if that is not an option, use them vertically, at worst, the dispersion will be less than ideal. Surrounds are more forgiving than fronts, in that they generally get a lot less sound sent to them than the fronts do.

This center speaker is designed to mount horizontal. I'm going to give it a try but not sure if i would be able to get the optimal sound from it.

btw, thanks for the quick replies.

Good Luck...

...Try it for a few days and let us know what you think. I just watched Spawn the other day, ok movie with really good surround usage. Watch some flicks that utilize the surrounds, especially if you are familiar with them, to see how you like it.

Yes, try it but be sure to level match the surround channel with them in place to all the others to give it at least some fairness:D
