Cambridge Audio Minx Xi vs. Your Best Shot

Hi
We are moving to a, new modern style, home in under a month, there is a specific place to mount a flat panel on the wall and the house is pre-wired for surround sound. This will be the only chance to buy a really nice audio system before another kid "arrives" and funds will be diverted towards diapers for foreseeable future. We don't own any CDs; only MP3 types and a high end TV will be used.

At a quick glance the Cambridge Audio Minx Xi seems really pro? Compact , versatile, not many constraints on file types.
Is there another manufacture(s) that I should be looking at ? Max budget for system with speakers is $3,500.

Thanks in advance for pointing me in any direction.

Hi jc welcome to the forum. :) You mentioned the house was pre-wired for surround. 5.1, 7.1? The room dimensions would also be helpful. Are you wanting a surround setup or 2 channel stereo for music?

hey thanks for the reply JohnnieB!

i would like surround since the house has cutouts in the ceiling (5.1 is fine), equipment wise i would favor higher end components knowing they would have less features in my price range.

i will go take some measurements and pics today, then post later tonight.
thanks again

The minx is a 2.1 system, it is not capable of 5.1. For this you need a processor. For the minx and a processor that's bluetooth capable, so you can integrate them, it looks like half your budget would be used up. There are capable receivers that do a pretty good job of playback for just about every digital source out there. If you still need a DAC, my suggestion is Emotiva.Emotiva Audio The XDA-2 is an excellent choice, and it costs about 600 less than the minx.
