Calibrating Yamaha without YPAO

Hi,

How does one calibrate the speaker levels of a Yamaha receiver without YPAO (HTR-5950).

Distance, cross-over, and speaker size settings seem easy enough, but I’m not sure about speaker levels.

I read the manual, but it isn’t clear about this.

There are no instructions on how to calibrate with a SPL meter.

Thanks,

SPL settings are where the YPAO system excells, IMO. It is just as accurate in my experience as an SPL meter and is faster. It's the speaker size and subwoofer areas where it gets confused. It sets most speakers to large and turns the sub too far down. It typically does distance very well too.

On my 2700 I simply set YPAO not to set the speaker size or crossover. The results are just as accurate as my manual settings.

Unless I'm mistaken the 5950 doesn't have YPAO.
I think that's the reason behind his question.

Thank you for your replies.

What I want to know, more specifically, is if I need to calibrate at a particular frequency produced by one of these calibration CDs and/or at particular volume to get the best results (matching speaker levels at the listening position).

BTW, I’m a woman.
