Calibrating TV vs DVD Player Using DVD

I've just purchased the Panasonic 34" widescreen HDTV. I'm trying to calibrate the TV using DVE. It's taking a little time but I'm getting there. I have the DVD version of DVE. However, when I run through the CD, I am calibrating via the DVD player's settings for contrast, brightness, etc....... These settings seem to override my TV settings. How can I somehow bypass the DVD settings to calibrate my TV settings? Hope this makes sense.

You need to set your dvd players settings to the default or normal settings. All adjustments should be made with the TV's remote. Any changes you make on the dvd player will be in addition to your displays settings but it will not override them. You should not need to make any adjustments on the dvd player other than the the ire setting or black level setting, the screen type and progressive scan on/off.

Thanks for the reply. I started out doing it that way but it did not appear as if the TV was receiving signals via my component video cables. For example, the DVE CD says that I shouldn't see any changes when I adjust tint for component hook ups. However, I do need to use tint to set the TV colors setting. When I configure my DVD settings, tint doesn't effect the picture and my color settings are done much easier. I would expect them to be the same since I am using component video cables to connect my DVD player and TV. Am I doing something wrong?

FYI, I am using comcast digital cable.

I just discovered a "Color Matrix" setting on my TV that tells the TV whether is should accept a HD color set or SD color set. Once I changed this setting, I was able to calibrate the TV properly. Thanks
