I just purchased this Sony from my local retailer. It included free setup and installation. Will it need to be calibrated? I just want to make sure that I have it setup for the best viewing, etc.

Thanks,

If you just purchased it, then yes it will need to be calibrated if you want the best picture. You can go the cheap rout and calibrate it yourself or you can pay to have a profesional ISF tech calibrate it for you. From what I've read, the ISF techs will do a heck of a job. I'm sure some others on the forum can provide more details on this.

You can do an ok calibration using the Digital Video Essentials, but to do a super job, if you value video quality, try the recommended ISF calibration

Don't let the store adjust it, unless he is ISF rained. The setting will be over driving the TV.

Calibration

I just got the same TV and it definitely will take some time to get the calibration right. I've only had time to play with it for about 3 days but the advanced picture settings controls are pretty detailed. I used an Ovation disc to calibrate by eye but I'm debating getting one of the Spyder TV calibration tools. I'm not sure how that would compare with an ISF calibration but at least then I can calibrate other TV's in the house as well. Enjoy the TV I'm loving mine so far. :D

Purchasing a display of this quality deserves nothing less than a ISF calibration. I personally have had 3 displays calibrated and the end result is well worth the investment. For example on my 50 Sony RPLCD I had an ISF tech install a ND filter which increased my black level to DLP performance, my contrast ratio more than doubled and other than a slight rolloff at 20IRE my grayscale was spot on.

ISF Calibration

Do you know what I should expect to pay to calibrate my Sony? The store didn't offer. I am going to call them to see if the even do it.

Also, should I wait and let the TV breakin?

Thanks,
