I was pondering whether to sound stupid for asking this question or, not asking at all. Sooo..I can't help but to ask this. My XPA-5 arrived today, and I'm waiting on the UMC-1 Processor. Now the question. Is regular RCA Cable fine for connecting from the UMC-1 Pre-Outs to the AMP. Or should I jump up to the SUPER-FINE type of Cable. I don't want to fall for just anything. And I hear you can use COMPONENT VIDEO Cable for audio. I'm getting confused.

Since I upgraded to the Oppo SE, I've decided to keep my receiver for now. It was between the UMC-1 and the SE upgrade and the upgrade was less expensive at the moment. I've had my eye on the UMC-1 for a while too, so I'll have to see how it works out for Darien and maybe get a listen to it sometime soon....(hint hint :D ) I think I will be happier with the SE and scoring a deal on the XPA-3 anyway

Yeah, I agree. Like I said, if my reciever wasn't going on ten years old, I would have opted for XPA-3 too. Since you were the only one who answered my question, is there any difference in using COMPONENT VIDEO cable for audio jacks? Is there that much signal loss going with regular RCA Cable compared to the Blue Jean Cable you showed me? I don't mind buying the Blue Jean, just want to be sure, that's all. Thanks

You don't need to spend a lot on cables as long as they are well made. Blue jeans and Monoprice both have good reputations for quality. I use Acoustic Research for most of my connections and you can pick up a stereo pair of RCA's for around $20. They are sturdy and work just fine. If you're an Emotiva owner, I think you still can get a 20% discount on their cables if you order by phone.

Yes, you can use component cables for audio. Not much significant difference as far as I know.

You must not know about the saying, something like ... better to be() for 5 minutes than not ask and forever.;):D

Component video, composite video, digital audio, so called subwoofer cables, they will all work just fine:D

.... I meant that high priced cable, that promises a lot of things that may not matter.....
Yep, they are good at that, promises, promises....;):D

I like the idea of using component video cables because it's kind of a recycling deal.
They work fine and what else would you use your old ones for?

Beating the monkey? j/k

Component video cables should work fine as long as they are of decent quality, since video cables specification actually exceeds that of most analog audio cables. Those "in the box" cables are not going to give you good results IMO, but any decent cables will work.

I had an extra set laying around, so I thought I might give that a try.

For audio cables, I would stick with Blue Jeans Cable.

For HDMI cables, I would go with Monoprice or BJC.

What about the difference between using Anolog Cable and Digital Cable? Do Digital Cables work in Anolog jack plugs? I'm not sure if the UMC-1 is anolog or digital....Man, I'm trying to sound like I have some brains, but it isn't going over that way. I'm sorry guys...Maybe I should be drop kicked back to JUNIOR AUDIOHOLIC?

I would use DIGITAL Coaxial RCA-type cable for both ANALOG & DIGITAL needs.

Yes, they work perfectly.

There won't be a digital connection between the pre/pro and amp.

In terms of the actual interconnects themselves, coaxial digital are identical in spec to video cables.
