I recently purchased cable TV which uses the RCA jacks, I have
connected the Cable TV directly to my VCR using the RCA jacks but now
I need to have my VCR turned on in order to watch Cable on my TV (VCR
channel needs to be turned to AU) which I would rather avoid.

I tried connecting the Cable TV directly to my TV using one of the
"IN" RCA jacks on my TV which is no problem, however, how can I
connect my VCR to record Cable TV programs via my TV set (what channel
would I set my VCR to or is it not possible to record off a TV A/V
channel?)

In other words, with Cable TV connected directly to TV (to avoid
turning on VCR to watch Cable TV), is there a way to set up VCR to
record Cable TV from the TV a/v channel.

The problem you are facing is that you only have one tuner.

You use the cable box to tune your station, right?

Your TV and VCR tuner are now useless, right?

So, this forces you to make a choice as to which gets the signal first and which gets it second. In either case, whichever station one gets is the same one the other one gets.

As it seems to stand now, you have to turn the VCR on in order to feed the scable box signal through it to the TV.

You might have an alternative

If your TV has a video and audio output then you cah have that feeding your VCR's "aux" inputs and you would have to switch the VCR to use them. RTFM for this. Again, the TV will have to be on for the VCR to record.

You could always pick up a switchbox and select which is to receive the signal, but this would most likely require your TV to have two aux inputs, one for the cable box and one for the VCR's output.

No big deal, the cable box should have an RF output which you can tune your VCR to channel 3 to receive. The quality is not as good as direct RCA connections, but isn't horrible either.

Leave the cable box connected directly to your TV as you have it.

When you turn your VCR on, tune it to channel 3 and you should see the image. It may take a little tweaking to get it to work, but it should work.

Is this a digital cable box? Many these days include TWO outputs of composite video. What type of digital cable box? Brand? Model? Thanks for the extra info.
