What cable thickness should i choose for a 200W loudspeaker at a distance of 20m (70ft) ?
What about for a 300W loudspeaker at a distance of 10m (35ft) ?
And for a 250W sub that is at a distance of 20 m (70ft) ?

Thank you,
Dan

This question is asked

just about everyday:) . Any well sheilded speaker wire @ 12g would do for the longer run 14g for shorter. FYI check out this link www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm (hifihoney link)

For the sub you'll need a sub cable. Again it should be well shielded like a coax cable(rg6) with a rca connector that you can by anywhere.

I'd run 12 ga for the whole system. If your sub is powered, run quad-shielded RG6 with RCA ends.

Are you actually sending 300 watts of power to a speaker? What amplifier are you using for this?

I don't think you said what you mean.

Methinks you're quoting the amount of power those speakers are rated to beable to handle, right? ...and that's not the way to look at these things.

That's like asking how much car do I need to be able to use tires rated up to 200 mph.

Tangent

I'd like to post a tangential response/query.

I've just completed my first IB subwoofer. I didn't have enough of my old OEM 12 awg or 14 awg Rat-Shack wire available, just some 16 awg Rat Shack cable for a little longer run...so I did a quick buy of some advertised 14 awg ofc wire off E-bay.

The product I received was nowhere near as thick as either the 12 awg OEM or 14 awg Rat Schack product I have. And this was no hair splitting exercise.

Worse, it is thinner than the 16 awg RS product...

I'm a little miffed, especially since the purveyor has mostly a good rep...and there are clearly published AWG tables out there...

Any experience/comments to share with someone who thinks he's missing something after all these years?
