Cable Termination Question

Hi all,

The scoop. I am currently renovating by basement to include an HT area. I am running all cables in-wall and I am making all component, composite, and subwoofer cables from RG6-QS. It will soon be time to terminate these cables and I wondering about options.

I am currently looking at two snap in type terminations (site is a tad slow. please be patient as it will come up)
RCA to "F" Audio or Video Keystone Insert w Rings (the end of the RG6-QS will be terminated with a compression f fitting)

or

Quickport Red RCA Compression Connector (they have black, green, blue, and yellow as well)

With the first there is one extra connection in that the F terminator must screw into the back of RCA jack and I know that less connections is better.

Just looking for a bit of input as I am stuck on which to buy

Thanks
Michael

The F to RCA jack would work if the cable itself is terminated with an F connector. I tried that route originally but it was difficult to get the pin into the back of the connector without bending it. It's possible that one piece had a manufacturing defect though. I ended up using a normal F jack and an adapter to go from F to RCA.

MDS,

Thanks for the input. I think I am going to give the F to RCA ones a try as after futher research, using the Quickport Red RCA Compression Connector will require me to buy yet anouther compression tool, I already have three bought at one time or another for a specific installation, as the aforemention connnector will not fit the one that I have and there is no ino available on whether or not you can remove the actual connector assembly from the plactic housing to terminate it.

The F to RCA I can buy locally and the other I have to order from the US so the later will be a lot more painful to return if I have to do so.

Thanks again for you thoughts
Michael

I use the F to RCA's all the time, mostly because I'm too cheap to buy another compression tool. They work fine in a low voltage box.

Thanks Sam,

Yeah, that is about my stance as well. I like the other ones better but that is just asthetics. Going to go with the F to RCA and be done with it. Far far too many tools bought for one thing and never used gain :(
