I will be purchasing a plasma TV later in the year and I am in the process of building a new house. I will place the TV over the fireplace and DVD and other components in a cabinet next to the fireplace. What cables do I need to run throught the wall now during the framing process to insure that everything will work once the TV in mounted over the fireplace?

Sorry I an new at this but want to mkae sure everything works.

Thanks

Well, that depends on what kind of inputs your plasma will have. Most newer plasmas support HDMI. Since HDMI will support up to 1080i video, you'll be future proofed (at least for awhile). This will necessitate having a DVD player and Receiver with HDMI interface.

You might also want to pre-wire for speakers while you're at it. I would suggest that you prewire with either 10ga or 12ga Belden speaker cable. These will give you nice, low resistance connections.

Welcome to the forum, and keep the questions coming.

Over a fireplace? what kind? if you are talking anything releasing just radiant heat (that will rise above your fireplace) you might run into some issues (most electronics don't tolerate heat very well).

If you are lucky enough to pre-wire your house for HT, nothing says you have to keep your equip. next to your fireplace in a cabinet, heck you can even hide it in a separate room if you wish (if budget permits of course and other factors etc.).

Some ppl on this forum have lots of experience with this sort of stuff (home theatre installation). If you post your questions, I am sure they can help.

Be sure to post some pics when it's all done.

Good Luck,
