I need to run about 50 ft. of RCA cable to the subwoofer. What is my best option to reduce any losses? If I need to build my own, what type of cable and connectors would you guys suggest? Thanks.

Any high-quality coax will work fine. As for connectors, Canare RCAPs are great, but the crimpers and strippers that work well with them are EXPENSIVE! A high quality solder-type RCA should work well (I believe you can get solder-on Canare terminations).

Something like the Belden 1505F should work well and not break the bank.

Edit: If you feel that you want a thicker center conductor, then you might want to look at Canare GS6 cable. While it only has a single braid shield (as opposed to the braid/foil in the 1505F), it has an 18ga center conductor.

So will any old RG59 coax work in this situation for sending signal to a powered sub?

It will. But I would say try to use some decent stuff (good shielding, build quality, etc). You don't want to deal with signal loss or interference because you cheaped out and got a junk spiral shielded, thin conductor cable. It doesn't really matter what the price is, just get a good RG59 or RG6 coax with a 90% or greater coverage braid shield and at least a 22awg center conductor. These specs will ensure that you don't have interference or loss problems.
