Hi everyone, I have a question here, and I think your expertise could really shed some light.

The manual for my Panny 50PX77U indicates the cable feed should go from the cable box to the RF input.

I would have thought it should go to one of the HDMI or component hook ups. Why do they suggest this? Where is the scaling taking place?

That instruction is generic and is for the common case where people use the TV without a stereo/surround receiver and external speakers. The RF signal contains both the audio and video and is one way to get them both to the TV.

If you are only using a cable box and no stereo system, it would still be better to take the cable feed from the wall to the RF input on the cable box and then make audio and video connections from the cable box to the TV.
