I just got a samsung lcd and was wondering if I need to buy a HDMI cable or just use the HDMI I got from comcast. The Hd picture is very good but non HD is worse than before. If so which one should I buy, thanks for the help I don't know much about this stuff.

A HDMI is pretty much a HDMI and it is unlikely you will see any difference. I use the cheap one that came with my box and it works fine. My SD looks better with my HD box than it did with the SD box but then again I am using DTV vs. cable.

If you want a new HDMI buy from Monoprice so you arent blowing a lot of money.

How long is that HDMI cable from Comcast?
You are saying the standard def picture is worse than before. Before what? The HDMI cable? Before this TV? What was the old TV? TV size and viewing distance to TV?
Is this new TV properly calibrated or just right out of the box or some rudimentary setup by eye?

If the HD picture is good but the SD picture isn't, the problem is not the cable. If it were, both would be bad.

You might want to try the component path to see if that's any better.

The setup is out of the box which is good in HD the HDMI cable from comcast is about 6ft. I watch from 8-9ft the SD on my old 32" sony is a better picture. I will order component cables and try them.
Thanks

Out of the box setup is not always good for a TV. I have a Samsung LCD as well and spent a good couple hours with a DViE disc trying to calibrate it properly.

The other thing that you may want to check is whether the cable box settings are correct. It could be possible that your box may be on the "zoom" or "stretch" settings, which will make the SD picture look horrible. Go through the video settings very carefully and make sure that they are correct as well.
