Hi guys I am working on learning some of this but I am really starting close to zero when it comes to cables. I am planning to get a home sound system.

For the living room I am planning to get a Denon AVR-3808, oppo-83 or 980H DVD player, Outlaw LFM-1 12" subwoofer, pair of Definitive technology Mythos one floor standing for the fronts, Definitive technology Mythos Eight for center wall mounted. I am also planning on getting a panasonic V10. I plan on connecting everything to the reciever. The front speakers will be aproximately 6-8 feet from the TV - what do you guys think about this placement?

for the office Iam thinking of a pair of Magnepan MMG. I already have a Musichall 25.2 cd player and an Onkyo A-9555 amplifier.

What is your recommendation as far as cables? Can I just use the cables that come with them or do I need additional cables.

I mostly watch TV + DVD + PS3 games. As far as music I listen to Jazz and soft rock.

Thanks alot for your help. I would really like to thank everydoby on my previous posts also because they really helped guide what I should be getting.:)

This is a very commonly asked question and the answers rarely change. You might want to look at some of the older posts for some insight on this.

Simply put, you don't have to spend a fortune for great performance.

Get 14 gauge two-wire, 12 gauge if you are a purist, 10 gauge if you a a crazy audiophile ( it is over kill though)

And get locking banana plug from Monoprice.com banana plugs make easy electrically and physically secure connections.

If you don't want to mess with putting the banana plugs on, get their pre-made cables. Great cables ,low price.

bluejeanscables.com also makes excellent cables but they cost more.

The stores sell Monster cables. They are good cables but are priced 3-5 times the cost of monoprice or bluejeanscables and if anything, they are not quite as high of quality.

If you get equipment locally at Best Buy or Frys or similar --do not buy cables there or extended warranty plans --- this is where they make their money! caveat emptor

Good Luck!

You'll need to purchase additional cables as what comes with the gear doesn't cover everything. You'll need speaker wire, additional HDMI cables, a sub/coax cable for starters. If you purchase through Monoprice, ordering a few extras won't cost you much more.
