Hey Guys/Girls,

I am new to this all, however i love my music and in dire need of an exceptional speakers (with a budget of course). i have a couple of questions about the type of speakers as well as setup, so if you could spare the time i would really appreciate it! I am looking for some quality speakers for my bedroom for just audio and nothing else, my room is 4x6 meters to give you an idea of the space i want to fill with sound.

Q: What type of speakers should i get? (Bookshelf or Tower speakers)

Q: How many speakers would i need, in order to fill the room sufficiently?

Q: What are some good brands that are out their that you would personally recommend?

Q: what would be a sufficient size for a Sub-Woofer?

Keeping in mind that i also need to buy an amplifier, i would need one that would also be capable of taking a Sub as well.
My Budget is approx around $1000 Au, give or take, i do understand though that the more money you pay the better the quality so i was just curious as to what would be the best option would be :)

Thank you so much for responses i really appreciate your time and effort.

I think 1000au is around $900? and 4mx6m is about 13x20? am I correct in that?

OK as far as how many speakers I am going to say music should IMO be played with 2 speakers and a sub or 2 subs...

For that budget I would look into an intergrated amplifier and a nice set of bookshelfs, add a sub later...

A little over your budget and Im not sure how easy to get where you are but this would be nice...

Dayton Audio APA150 150W Power Amplifier 300-812
Sierra-1 Bamboo Loudspeaker

or if you want to get into a 2.1 on a budget maybe the value 2.1 for $549 Value 1 Packages
and the apa150 amp or an emotiva miniX....

The choice between towers or stand-mount(bookshelf) speakers is going to be one of price and placement. If I have the money and enough room to place them I always go with towers. The thing is you can get a much nicer stand-mount for the same price as a lower quality tower. Towers are more expensive to build. A stand-mount at the same price as a comparable tower may have a nicer tweeter so the mid-highs might sound better but the tower will likely dig deeper and could have a more rounded sound. Which do you care about more? Also if this is an apartment I would probably skip on the sub(which you won't be able to turn up very high) and put that money into better speakers or room treatments. If your not in an apartment then a good 10"+ sub should be a great starting point. Multiple subs are great as they not only increase output but also can lead to a smoother in room frequency response.

You only need two speakers to fill that size room. I like 2ch stereo and that's what I use for music and movies. I think it's smarter to buy a pair of really nice towers or stand-mounts instead of 5 or 7 lower quality speakers. You can always add more later.

As far as brands in the sub 1k territory I would look at Ascend Acoustics, Psb, EMP Tek, and Aperion Audio. There are at least another 20 good brands out there worth looking at but that's where I would start

When it comes to amps its important to remember that it takes double the watts to go from say 80db to 83db which is a minor increase in loudness. This means a 800watt amp will only play slightly louder than a 400watt amp. You shouldn't worry about small differences in power output. There have been many tests done that show all properly constructed amps sound the same when driven within their respectful operating limits. A properly designed amp shouldn't sound warm or harsh. People saying these things are likely just hearing a placebo effect or some sort of dsp differences. Basically any well made amp should do you just find and there's no point(in my opinion) to spend a ton of money unless your gaining features like room correction or more inputs etc. I don't use separates(amp + pre pro) as I've found AVRs can play as loud as I need them too and have a great selection of features at a good price.
