Buying a Samsung Plasma...

I am about to buy a Samsung FP-T5084. They are on sale at Best Buy and Nebraska Furniture Mart for about $2600. Here is my question, are there any better 50" 15000:1, Full 1080p Plasmas out there for the same price that are of good quality? It seems like a great deal to me. It seems like that most 1080p's of that size and quality are well over $3000.Thanks.

Are you sure you need a 1080p set? What distance are you going to be watching from? 50" is on the boarder you might not be able to see the difference between 1080p and 720p with that size a set if you are sitting far enough away. If so you open up your options greatly and can save yourself quiet a bit of moeny.

I am quite partial to the picture of the Panasonic 1080p plasmas, but they are likely to be more expensive than Samsung at any given size.:)

I saw the Panny 50" Viera 1080p for about 2500.00 at my local BB, if you try online merchants it'll most likely be less, good luck.

Not near the same price range. Their 720p models are more expensive than same size Panasonic 1080p models in stores. The Panasonic 1080p walked all over the $500 more Pioneer 720p display, all over.;)

Thanks for the help. I have had a bad run with panny in the past so I am reluctant to try their plasma even though I have heard they make a great unit.

As for the distance, right now I am at about 14' plus or minus a foot depending on seat. In the new house, it will be downstairs in a 'rec' room and will be much more because it will be a pool table, bar, theater area...ie, man cave:p

It was a Pioneer, and it lost.:D

Colors weren't as vivid, they were oversaturated. The Panasonic had a sharper image, as it should be at 1080p.

Wow! I'm not sure who set up the panel(s) but the Pioneer above all else is known for THE most natural colours hands down. I had A GAOO for years...great TV, but the Pioneer is monsterous! To each his own Sir.
