Buy Wiim Mini to supplement streaming box for 24 bit audio?

Just bought an Onn 4k Pro streaming box. Limited to 16 bit audio using Amazon Music Unlimited which is capable of 24 bit. Running HDMI output directly into an Onkyo TX-NR7100. Would it be worth the $90 for a Wiim Mini to get 24 bit on Amazon Music? Tried searching but can’t find much. Thanks.

The Wiim Mini supports 24/192 over optical, though some have reported issues. Have you tried streaming to the Onkyo from a Smart device on the same network using the DTS Play-Fi app or the Onkyo/DTS Play-Fi app? Hi-res is supported from various services using critical listening mode.

While the Wiim supports 24/192 output over optical, many AVRs have coaxial and optical ports that are limited to 24/96. Though it is not specified in the 7100 manual, even the new RZ70 is limited to 24/96 concerning its coaxial and optical ports. I forgot about that bit when posting the first time around.

Onkyo released firmware updates on 10/28/24 for its new receivers that include Dolby Atmos and hi-res support for music streamed from the built-in Amazon Music and Tidal apps.

While I was able to stream UHD 192/24 and Dolby Atmos from Amazon Music using my Onkyo TX-NR6050, Tidal tracks are locked at 44.1/16 after supporting 48/24 some time ago. Dolby Atmos did not work at all. Perhaps Tidal needs to tweak something on their end or Onkyo needs to put out another update.
