This opened yesterday in Baltimore, I saw it tonight. Being a big fan of the Coen Brothers, I am always waiting for their next flick. This one didn't disappoint. My local newspaper reviewer, ever the conventional mainstream guy damned it with faint praise but I really enjoyed it. It has the same weird humor that doesn't make big belly laughs that I enjoyed in Fargo and The Big Lebowski. Brad Pitt is good at being an airhead. Francis Mc Dormand is sort of an out-of-control Marge Gundersen. Definitely worth a view for Coen fans.

I am a huge Coen fan. I love all their movies and can't wait to see this one.

I was thinking about seeing this one. However, I opted to see Righteous Kill instead. Chances are, I will see this one very soon. Thanks for the heads-up.

Cheers,

This got panned by every reviewer that I trust... I think it's going to have to be a rental at this point. Movies in NYC are just too damn expensive...

Aw that's a bummer. I also love Coen films, but I did think that the two preceding No Country weren't quite up to par, namely Ladykillers and Intolerable Cruelty.

I wasn't going to the theaters anyways, because that's just something I don't do anymore. But its still unfortunate news.

I really, really wonder if its because they became "bigger" and more mainstream, and thus are more victimized by producers' demands than they were before. Just a curious thought. I dunno, I was wondering about something like this when I saw Intolerable Cruelty in the theater . . .

This should have been called "Burn before Watching". It was terrible. Totally dissappointed.

I thought it was pretty good. Not hilarious, but it did make me laugh.

I was cracking up at the part where Clooney attacked the little PI dude. :D

"Tuchman Marsh! I work for Tuchman Marsh!"

"Tuchman Marsh? Is that a law firm?"

"No, a rock band. Yes it's a law firm. It's a divorce action numb nuts."

:D

I loved Big Lebowski, Fargo, and No Country for Old Men. Burn After Reading would have been much easier to stomache if they had named it as ivseenbetter suggested.:D

Don't get me wrong, the movie had it's moments of pure hilarity. Overall I found it to be lacking in "structure" and the plot was chaotic (which I am sure it was meant to be). There are films that are messy, plot-wise, with a purpose that I comfortably watch and enjoy. At the end of this movie I felt like I missed something.

Perhaps it's too much like life as we live it and that's what I found so un-enjoyable about it. Many character's lives where ultimately ruined and vanity triumphed.

Agreed, although we were calling it "Burn After Watching". I'm also annoyed by how the trailers made it out to be a lot funnier than it was.
