Building my own 5.1 system

I have good knowledge on this subject, but there are some things I'm a bit confused about.

I'm building a 5.1 system using 5 small cube speakers and one home made sub. The sub is a dual-coil subwoofer inside a band-pass box.

My concerns are 1) how to prevent the amp from sending bass to the cube speakers, and 2) how should I connect the sub.

The sub is not self-powered, so I can't use the Subwoofer output from the amp because that's not amplified. I have to use the same speaker outputs that go to the cube speakers so I need to handle the bass and mid+highs freq. separation outside the amp.

Basically, what I'm putting together is something like the Bose Acoustimass system where the full range goes into the box and the box does the crossover and filters the bass to prevent it from going to the cubes.

1) In order to prevent the amp from sending bass to the cubes I am planning on installing filters on them, similar to those used for tweeters, but with lower microfarads. What specs should the filters have so that they cut off anything below 250Hz? I want the sub to handle those freqs. below 250Hz. My amp throws up to 100 Watts per channel for each of the 5 channels.

2) How should I feed the sub? From the L & R channels? (remember this sub is dual-coil). I'm thinking of connecting the L & R channels to the sub and share that output with the L & R cubes. This is ok for 2-channel content, but what about 5.1 content? How can I get the bass that goes to the center channel if the sub will be connected to the L and R speaker outs? Should I even worry about the bass that goes to the center channel or will my system sound OK just grabbing the bass from the L and R channels?

What driver did you use for the subwoofer. It may be simpler for you to purchase a plate amplifier for the subwoofer. I don't know how to make an x-over.:(

It's a Pioneer 10" dual coil driver. It can take up to 400W (200W per coil).

Getting an amplifier for the sub is going to raise my costs too much. Getting filters is much cheaper and I already have a speaker level crossover I can use.

So, what specs should the filters have so that they cut off anything below 200Hz or 250Hz? Also, how should I feed the sub? From the L & R speaker outputs of my amp?
