Would like some help filling in the gaps. I am currently puting together my first 2.1 system for phono and cd listening. I have the following equipment which I would like to add to:

Onkyo Tuner and CD player - Old but good
Onkyo M501 Amp (more than enough for current speakers)
Boston Acoustics VR-1 (found for 50.00/pr.)

Would like to upgrade pre/pro or add receiver and add sub (VR-1 need help on the bottom end)

At a standstill with all the possible configurations and equipment. Budget is about 600.00.

My room is 25' by 13' with 8' ceilings and carpeted.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Take a look at the Klipsch 12HG selling right now on Amazon for $199. Leaves you $400 for a decent receiver. If you have any Best Buys near you, check for open box / clearances on receivers. You might find a deal worth the leg work. It did in my case. Also take a look at accessories4less.com. They've a decent selection of refurbished receivers that fit your budget.

I have a related setup question? If I wanted to do a 2.2 system could I run two subs from my existing 2 channel amp and run the
CV1's from the subs (stf-1 or outlaw m8)? Or do I have to purchase another amp for the sub(s) and Y off the pre/pro?

Thank You for your response to the earier post. I have had good experience with Onkyo my current system has been bug free for close to thirty years.
