You guys seem to know what you are doing when it comes to these screens so heres my situation .. me and my roomate purchased a pretty high end sony projector for our dorm room and plan to run cable coax into a converter to audio video component wires which will go into the projector and some external speaker system, this system is not the problem .. however we are in college and want the simplest solution for a decent cheap screen ... ie home depot material ... possibly no frames ect. cheap is the key lol college eats money up like its my job which it is lol ... im looking to get ok results not dramatic ones...

Thanks to all in advance,
Joe :D

Joe while I don't typically recommend people away from this site, there is an excellent DIY screen section at AVSForum.com which is worth looking at. The Eldemar screen will give you $700+ screen results for well under $100.00

This is the screen that I built for under $200.00 following those instructions pretty much...

Here's the detail of the frame I built, etc...

I used standard blackout cloth. The final result seemed very close to a 1.0 gain matte white. Since I didn't have a matte white to compare it to, the link I have that goes to the BMXTRIX website actually compares the image to a $4,000 High Contrast Grey Draper Screen (.8 gain). The DIY screen is clearly brighter and perhaps a bit more washed out in the shadows. The projector used for that particular demo was an Panny AE700.

Standard blackout cloth though from JoAnn Fabrics. Used the 'white' side.

EDIT: Obviously the photo above is a Photoshop job done with the lights off in the room, then with the lights on. The projected image itself is 100% untouched, but was laid on top of the 'lit' room. A more accurate image would be with a completely dark room (black) with the exact same image.
