I need to build a box for my sub (well not me my dad he builds more stuff out of wood than noah did himself) and need some suggestions. I know this should probly go in the DIY thread but no one seems to go there often and i would like to get this done quickly.

So i have a JL audio 13.5" W7. In the owners manual it give a suggested box specs, (click here for rec. specs)but i dont know if that is the best specs. I dont know how to calculate port size or anything like that so i wanted to see if anyone could help me. Thanks alot

Go with the ported one.

Of all the companies to trust with specs and enclosure design, I would pick JL as one for sure. Kicker...no, JL, yes.

Another hint is to go to an authorized JL dealer and they usually have a book that will have about 5-6 different enclosures for each driver, they used to have it online but I didnt look around...once they got rid of the ported dual isobaric design for 4-12w1s I stopped looking...that box is evil.

You did not specify where this speaker will be used. If it is for car use, the JL suggestions are probably the best for you to use. However, if you intend to use this subwoofer in the home, you need to scrap the JL recommendations, as they are specifically for in-car use. You need to calculate a new box for optimal home use.
