Which one do you guys think is better? Velodyne is rated to 35hz +-3db, whereas the finished Dayton is rated to 25hz. They both are roughly the same price, $129 vs $124.

Any ideas? I'm looking to purchase asap.

P.S. I will be pairing with an vintage Advent Response Model 420s hi-fi radio/reciever and a pair of onix rocket elt lrs satellites. I am not looking for a matching onix rocket subwoofer, they are out of my price range. New to the speaker world, I have been using my Sennheiser HD580 and Ety ER6 for a while.

Thanks!

I've heard very nice things about the Dayton. I have an 8in and a 10in velodyne from the old CHT series which were a step above. it seems to me from reviews, the dayton may be a slightly better performer. i'd try that one out.

If you want the ground to shake, go with the Dayton. I have the Velodyne in my bedroom set-up, where it works fine, but it doesn't blow anyone away. My main system has a couple models up.

In eather case, get a decent shielded cable (doesn't actually have to be a "subwoofer" cable) and try a splitter on the end to feed to both the L and R inputs for the best performance :)

well my source is the chaintech av710 sound card and I have a 1/8mini-L/R RCA to the aux-in, my vintage advent doesnt have subwoofer out. It has just one L/R tape-out, so I can use my existing L/R rca cable.

Which setup would be better, reciever to the subwoofer via tapeout, or subwoofer (line level or low level?) to reciever?

great. I am now thoroughly confused. I was under the impression that the Velodyne VX-10 should be better, coming from a premier subwoofer company.

I have the VX-10 and what I liked about it compared to other subs was the feeling that the bass generated was truly omnidirectional, meaning I was not able to point out the direction the low freq. was coming from. In fact standing next to the main speakers, it sounded as if the thumps were coming from the main speaker even when the VX-10 was like 10 feet away. Standing next to the surround, it appeared that even the surrounds were thumping, when they were not.

Does the Dayton have the same charateristics? Or is it just another box that simply generates a lot incoherent rumble, giving the impression that it is better?
