Budget HT 5.1 setup?

Hi, apologies if this is commonly asked. I am looking to set up a 5.1 surround system to play audio for movies. The speaker system will also be used for CD music.

I am already looking at an Onkyo receiver, but am stuck for speakers. I would prefer not to go above $500 (I know...). The room is small, 25 by 12, with the lounge area within this space being 14 by 12.

I know that I will not get a great system for this money. I am not looking for excessive volume or bass, just the best that limited money can buy.

Thanks, AJK

I started with this speaker system.

They are decent for movies, not so good for music. I have all but replaced them. I'm still using the sub. (Not for long)
I haven't priced the lately but a year ago I got them for under $200. Match them with a good reciever and they're a couple steps above HTIB.

For what it's worth.
