I just picked up the new(ish) BT album, "This Binary Universe" on CD/DVD.

First impression is: Wow, I think I've found a new surround demo disc for showing off my system and testing new ones. The fourth track "1.68" refers to the Golden Ratio and has some amazing surround effects. You can watch the video in High Definition (720p) with 6ch mp3 sound at Stage6 - the DTS version on the DVD has a lot more presence though. Skip to about the 2:30 mark to get to the cool part if you want to skip the intro. It reminds me a lot of the slow, instrumental buildup parts from bands like Tool or Pink Floyd, but with some cool effects thrown in :D

The site is here if you want to listen to some of the other tracks: http://www.thisbinaryuniverse.com/

I bought that one after reading about it in Wired magazine. I really enjoy the music, but haven't tried the video yet.

I bought it the day it came out. It really is very well done and sounds great. The 2ch doesn't sound quite as good, because I think it was mixed from the start for dts. I was already a big BT fan, and each of his albums are solid IMO. BT is an amazing composer with great technical ability, but his music also possesses a very down to earth character that imparts a sort of story. This is probably the most mellow stuff I've heard from him to date. These tracks do tend to have a lot of opening build up, culminating in bold "overtures" that have plenty of impact. The video is interesting, but I prefer it without. If you like this album, pick up Emotional Technology also, the previous album.
