broadcast HDTV tuner advice

I'm looking to upgrade my home theater to receive over-the-air HDTV broadcasts (ATSC) for use with my existing external antenna and HD projector. Does anyone have any experience with these tuners and can make suggestions?

Also, does there exist an HD tuner that can also tune in standard analog (NTSC) cable signals? I've only seen one option there (an older RCA model) and was hoping for something current. If it upconverted, it would be even better! I'd like to ditch my old VCR currently doing that job and go with a single device for watching TV.

Cheers,

Kevin

KevInCini,

I recently purchased a Samsung SIR-T451 HD Terrestrial Tuner. It works great. I purchased a refurbished one for $140. (A new model is $250). In my research, I really couldn't find anything more cost effective.

I do not know if this will also tune the standard cable channels, however. You may want to check the specs on it.

Thanks,

I've seen that one recommended a bunch and it seems to be a good way to go if I want to give up the idea of having an all-in-one tuner. From what I've read, the Samsung doesn't do NTSC. There are a couple others, too, but none that seem to do both digital and analog for a mid-range price (or less).

Cheers,

Kevin
