Hey everyone,
In case you all don't remember me, I'm the one who has been shopping around for some towers and I had previously been lookig into the JBL Venue Stadiums, as well as the awesome suggestions offered by many of you. Well, in short, I've pretty much put that thought aside at the moment as something new, well not literally new, has come about. My dad had a pair of Yamaha NS-A89's back in the day, I'm thinking the late 80's. Due to the law of nature, the foam around the 12" woofers began to deteriorate. I recently had them refoamed and was initially excited to introduce them to my reciever. However, to my surprise, the sound was boxy as the highs were not very pronounced and the low end seemed to muddy the sound even more when I fiddled with the EQ on the reciever. I'm just a little disappointed because I remember as a kid these sounded fantastic with a basic stereo reciever, but now they're not half of what they used to be.

The real wood cabinate is still in awesome shape and I would hate to give these up without trying to salvage them somehow. I'm thinking one of two things or the possible combination of both:
a.) the refoaming somehow altered the sound quality
b.) the reciever I'm using just doesn't get along with them (I'm using an HK AVR-145)
All thoughts or suggestions are welcome. If these are beyond repair, I'll be back in the market. Many thanks in advance!
