brightness of video output - denon 3805

Hi, I have always hooked my video sources directly to my tv. Recently I got a denon 3805 and used the receiver to feed the tv from the component video output. I have noticed that the tv screen on dvd's or video tape seems to be dimmer than it used to be. Is this typical or is there some sort of adjustment that the receiver can make?

I have always been reluctant to use the receiver to feed the tv video because I figured it would degrade the signal. I'm not 100% sure that the signal is darker but I think it may be. I hate to pull the cables out for a back to back comparision. Any suggestions or experiences with this anyone?

Most of what I've read is to hook the signal directly up to the tv, and not through your receiver. My digital cable goes from the wall to my DVR directly to my tv. Newer cable boxes and DVR's have component rca jacks for the best picture quality, as long as your tv set has them.

My tv has 2 sets of component inputs. I run my hdtv feed directly to the set and my dvd and vcr are running through the receiver currently which uses the 2nd component input to the tv set. It just seems strange that a relatively highly regarded receiver would darken the image transferred through it.

Hooking my TV up through the 3805 improved my signal considerably...I don't get the noise in the picture i used to...it works for me.

I find that it cleans up the way my tapes look. The sounds are better too. I just think that the picture may be darker than it was before. I wonder if there is any way to boost the output brightness. So far I don't see anything in the manual.

You may want to experiment with a test disc in the DVD player and see if there is a difference with the component video and other inputs.
Maybe your tv needs calibration in the component video input? The TV will not respond equally in all its video inputs.

I agree...picture seemed darker. but for me, i was getting little faint vertical lines on my picture...after i got the 3805, this went away. i don't know why, but it did. and i can control the remote better this way. Why not do it this way??????? Why wouldn't someone????

I guess I will have to experiment a bit. Connect it direct then through the 3805 and see if I notice a direct difference. So I guess there is no way to boost the signal brightness. At least no one replied with any methods to do so...

Maybe time for that new Plasma or LCD tv. Good excuse, right?
