Breathing Room For Corner Sub Placement

Hey guys, I am moving my big old Hus VTF2 into the corner. Because of the available space I need to place it as near to the corner walls as possible. How much breathing room does the VTF2 require without compromising performance? A two inch set back would ideal for my space constraints but I could go up a tad if it would make a meaningful difference. My main priority is keeping the sound tight for musical playback. If it makes any difference it's a fairly big space that my audio system is in. It's one of those condo living room, dining room, entry way open spaces which all together which comprise what I would estimate to be about 1200 square feet. Thanks.

Not so sure but I belive you just need space from the back if your port is there. You need to place it close then move it away and see.

Thanks Mike. I got a chance to experiment this afternoon and damned if the VTF2 didn't sound great two inches from each wall. I don't mean it sounds ok, it sounds GREAT! I used my usual two test disks, Eagles HFO and U571. The bass was tight and musical playing the Eagles and in the opening sequence of U571 the depth charges hit hard and loud. My concerns were all for naught and I could not be more pleased with how the sub sounds in it's new location.

Careful, putting ports close that the wall will maximize bass, but also port noise. If you plug the port, I suggest at least 6 inches.

Do you have Avia and an SPL meter?
If you do, run the LFE sweep with the sub in different positions.
I found that by going from 7" clearance to 14" clearance behind my current sub in my own room, the response became smoother and less bumpy.

I do have the SPL meter, but I do not have the room to move the sub more than a few inches this way or that. The good news is that subjectively it sounds great with the two inch set back so I will leave things as they are for now.
