After searching for the past week for a good dual sub combo for under $3000 I thought I was set on 2 Velodyne Optimum-12's. The only problem was that the only site that sold them for under $1500 was audiophileliquidators.net which I have found MANY horrible reviews about. I am in the military and have access to shop on aafes.com and just found that they sell brand new Velodyne DD-10's for $1199 and DD-12's for $1399!! I consider this a great deal since DD-12's usually retail for $2500. The only question I have is wether to get the DD-10's or the DD-12's. With nearly identical specs, except for the driver size and a 1hz lower in low end frequency response, is it worth an extra $400 for 2 DD-12's? I realize that 2 12inch drivers will push more air then 2 10inch drivers, but what are the real world effects to the sound quality/SPL? Thanks for your guys input. Also, I have concrete floors, does anyone recommend gramma pads, or something similar?

First and foremost....

Thank you for your service.. !!! Its greatly appreciated here.

I'm not totally sure of the specs listed, it would be nice to see some 3rd party measurements of both, but Im pretty confident that the 10" will likely not hit the teens that they are suggesting... I personally would go for the DD12's, they are still to this day good performing subs and stand up pretty darn well against the competition - considering their age, they are starting to become dated, but the onboard EQ is def an added bonus... for that price, personally I think they are a very good deal.

These are sealed servo subs so they will likely hit the teens, even the 10", however they will not do it with authority like a vented sub will. I've heard the DD-15 with SMS active and my sub hits harder at the bottom end. It is at the top end when the SMS is active that you can really hear the benefits of these subs. To be honest, for less than the price range you are looking at, a SVS PB-13 Ultra will outperform two DD12s.

I have heard great things about the pb-13 ultra, the only problem is I am limited to subwoofer that weigh less than 70 lbs since I live in Okinawa and only have an APO box to ship items to. This completely restricts me to sealed subwoofers since most high end boxed subs weigh in excess of 100 lbs
