Hey Friends, I haven't owned any kind of HT equipment since the early 90's. I'm a middle aged guy with a fair amount of DIY skills. I now have a chance to build my Man Cave, Game Room/Home Bar area in my basement. I've been researching for a couple days different HT Equipment. Looking for something that will give a good A/V experience at a modest price. The room is mostly finished. So it's time to get the HT hardware. I'll be watching mostly Directv, and BluRay Movies, some Dvd's and there will also be an X-Box 360. This is the equipment I have chosen. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions on better choices for the around the same money. As this is pretty much all I want to spend.

HDTV: Sharp 70" LC70LE640U $2299.88
A/V Rec : Denon AVR 1713 $448.95
Speakers: Pioneer SP-PK525 $549.99
BluRay Player : Panasonic DMP-BDT 220 $88.00

This looks pretty decent on paper. But I would like to get some opinions from people who know there A/V equipment.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this and any opinions offered.

It looks decent, but I can't seem to google anything on those "Pioneer SP-PK525" speakers. Couled there be a typo?

But, the current crop of Pioneer SP BS and FS series bookskelf/floor speakers are well respected and are getting great reviews.

If you specidfied a speaker package, you might want to consider adding a better subwoofer, even it it increases your budget.

Please provide some additional room information. Room size, ceiling height, wall colors, viewing distance, viewing habits, etc.

Always worth shooting out a suggestion for a projector if the space and viewing distance allows for it.

The Shap LCDs offer a lot of value for the money, but the Panasonic 65" ST series plasmas will deliver a far better image than the Sharp LCDs. Likewise, the Samsung 65" 7000/8000 series LCDs look better than the Sharps.

The Blu-ray player is an excellent entry level BD player. With a serious focus on the word Blu-ray. Don't expect any non-disc playback functionality to be anything more than weak. But with Blu-ray and DVD it does a very good job.

No recommendations on the rest.

I would get the Denon 1913 for $399 on sale. Definitely would not downgrade to 1713 for $50 MORE expensive. :D
Amazon.com: Denon AVR-1913 7.1 Channel 3D Pass Through and Networking Home Theater Receiver with AirPlay and Powered Zone-2 Capability: Electronics

The Pioneer is a respectable solid entry speaker system. There are more powerful subs for more money if you need a lot more bass. But if not, the Pioneer sub may be just enough - all depends on personal taste.

I love my 120" screen & projector, so anything less is not for me. But again, personal taste.

Thanks guys for the info. Yes Mark it was a typo. The speakers are SP-PK52Fs. BMXTRIX the room is 17x23 but the back half of that is a bar area. Ceiling height....a little over 7ft. Walls are a natural pine plank. Viewing distance 10ft. Viewing habits....BluRay movies,Direct TV, the kids want to put an X-Box 360 on it also. AcuDef, I see what you mean. I'll be getting the 1913.;)

I had a similar idea for a hdtv, and ended up with a projector and screen instead, as the 70" was too small for my room (25x28) and am VERY happy I did. I went with the Panasonic PT AR100U PJ and a jamestown 106 fixed screen, and the cost was under $1500 shipped to my door for both. my viewing distance is 12' or so, but even at 10' you should not have a problem with a 106".

I will only chime in on the Sharp. They are nice, and not bad for the money but there are far better tv's out there for nearly as much money. I 2nd the idea of a projector and screen, which you could definitely do for roughly 22-2300 bucks.
