Bought myself a new Denon 4311, got a few questions...

Hi.

I bought myself a Denon AVR4311 and I'm a total newbie on this so your help is appreciated. I have a 5.1 system with audio monitor speakers and subwoofer connected. I have a couple of questions regarding how to best set it up...

1) Connection to the subwoofer - the subwoofer has 2 inputs, 1 for right, other for left channels and the receiver has 2 subwoofer outputs. Should I connect them both to the subwoofer or should I connect a single cable to one of its inputs?

2) Connection to the front speakers - I've connected the receiver's right/left outputs to the speakers. Should I connect any additional channel to the speakers (I've read somewhere on doing so to obtain biamplification)

3) I have 3 devices connected to the receiver (STB, Media center and a PS3). My objective is to always have the receiver processing the A/V signal coming from the media center and the PS3. However, I want the receiver to work with the STB to differently. When the receiver is off, I want the signal to go straight to the TV and when it's on I want the receiver to process the signal. How can I do it?

Thanks again for your help,

JB

Nice buy.

You don't want to hook both sub outs to both of the inputs on the sub. Just run a single cable from Sub 1 to the left input. You could also get a Y-connector but it is not necessary.

2) Connection to the front speakers - I've connected the receiver's right/left outputs to the speakers. Should I connect any additional channel to the speakers (I've read somewhere on doing so to obtain biamplification)
What speakers are you using? If they have 2 sets of binding posts you can configure 2 of the amps (surround back or heights) to be used to bi-amp. This is usually not necessary but depending on your speakers it may make a slight difference.

3) I have 3 devices connected to the receiver (STB, Media center and a PS3). My objective is to always have the receiver processing the A/V signal coming from the media center and the PS3. First set the PS3 and media center to send bitstream and then receiver will do the processing. I am not sure about using HDMI passthrough features on that model. I'm sure your manual will lay it out for you.

1) Single cable will do

2) No.

3) On the HDMI Control menu, change to ON. This will allow the HDMI signal (audio/video) to pass thru the receiver untouched when the receiver is in STANBY mode.

Thanks for your answers guys.

adk highlander, my front speakers are monitor audio gs20.

AcuDefTechGuy, HDMI Control is set to on, but a really strange thing happens. When I turn the STB ON, nothing happens until I turn the receiver ON (out of standy). After that, if I turn the receiver off (standby mode), the STB keeps working normally. Any chance I can put make the STB signal pass to the TV without taking the receiver out of standby?

You could bi-amp those but I honestly don't think you would notice a difference. The amp in your 4311 should be able to push those to ear splitting levels without any need to bi-amp.

What sequence are you using when just trying to use the STB? Are you turning the TV on before the box? HDMI has a fun way of making some simple processes more complex.

Did you make sure the INPUT SELECT is set to the STB when the receiver is in Standby?

In other words, if the Input Select is set to the PS3, you cannot pass-through the STB signal when your receiver is in Standby mode.

That would happen if Standby Source is set to "Last" (Default). If the STB is the only source you want to use in Standby, you can set it for its HDMI input (ex. HDMI3), pg 99.

Hi.

Usual sequence is TV and afterwards STB.
