bottom line technology importance

Hi,

OK, I've been reading a lot lately on amps/HT etc and honestly it is amazing how different people view the same equipment. I've read how certain types of power supplies, or music processing techniques, etc. are critical for top performance. In other words it is hard to find a one-stop-shop that outlines the top technology (say the top 10 items a receiver/amp must have) to have great sound and secondly to deal with future innovations (e.g. HDMI 1.3).

I realize how things sound to your own ear to most important but I would like to know the technical items I should have in a piece of equipment. I figure once I know the most important technology I can compare the sound of systems that have that technology and go from there......

The most important aspect of an A/VReceiver is having enough of the proper connections. If you have 5 components but your AVR only has 3 inputs then it doesn't really matter how good it sounds to someone else.

So first tabulate how many component video, S-Video, fiberoptic audio, HDMI, etc etc etc you have now (plus what you might need by Xmas), then you can start narrowing-down your choices.
