Boston Acoustics vs Monitor Audio Speakers

setting up a new 7.1 home theater and I'm debating between Boston Acoustics (VR3 fronts, VRC center, VRX surround, VRX rear, PV-100 sub) and Monitor Audio Silver RS (RS-6 front, RS-LCR center, RS-FX surround, RS-FX rear, RSW-12 sub). I'm planning to use a Denon AVR-2807.

I've listened to both multiple times and feel they are both very good, pricing is similar,... Looking for some educated opinions to help finalize this selection. Thks!

2 good choices

I like both. I chose monitor because I felt the Boston top end to be just a little brighter. At first that impressed me, but over time I felt it could get a little tiring.
Mainly a matter of taste from my perspective. Listen to both for a while before you make a move.

i just bought the vr-3's and vr-b's and am very happy with them.

btw: i tried the boston subs and was impressed until i heard the velodyne. it is by far a better sub. imo, matching speakers is a must but the sub is almost a seperate component and you should look for the best one you can afford even if it doesn;t match your speakers exactly.

Can you pls tell me how much you paid for the speakers and where you bought them. I'm still shopping for the best deal.

agree, matching sub isn't best option

You really should check out Velodyne, SVS or HSU for the sub. Probably better bang for the buck than either Monitor or Boston & you definetly don't need to worry about being able to match another manufacturer's sub to the system.

I second Rooz' statement about the Boston sub. I don't know the frequency response of the PV-100, but I have VR2's with a PV 500. I liked it at first, but then I noticed that I was missing some of the low frequencies that my old towers with 12" woofers put out. Looking at the manual, the freq. response of the PV-500 only goes down to 35Hz!!! I ended up getting an Earthquake MKIV-10 to get to those low notes that my Boston couldn't give me. I'm a LOT happier. Having 2 subs is great. But the Earthquake alone is much better than the Boston. It also costs twice as much. Luckily, I bought mine from a local distributor, so I only paid $350 for my Earthquake. (Sucks how much companies mark up stuff to the consumer.)

By the way, I had a Velodyne for a day, but it had the most annoying hum, so I took it back the next day. Could have just been a ground loop hum though. I had the same thing with the Earthquake, though not as loud as the Velodyne. It took me FOREVER to get rid of that damn hum.

Anyway, to get to the point; Look for another sub.
