Boston Acoustic vs260 vs Energy Veritas v5.1

I plan to use either speaker for 50/50 Home Theater/Music for a possible 3.1 setup using either speaker as main fronts and add a subwoofer later. I am having a hard time trying to locate a dealer who carries the BA vs260 so I can listen. I plan to listen to to the Veritas this week. Has anyone heard either speaker and can comment on pros & cons of each?

I read the review of the Veritas on HT website and Rob Sabin responding to a question from a reader about Mark Flieschman's review, felt "various program material Mark found the speakers could sound "fatiguing," or "edgy," and he closes by suggesting the speakers performance can be "content dependent" and that they should be mated with "warm" electronics".

The Onkyo TX-NR809 considered a warm receiver?

What about a subwoofer to match either bookshelf speaker? I was thinking something in the HSU Series. Can I do better for under $500?

Hopefully I can find a dealer to listen to the vs260. Otherwise, if I don't like the Energy's, I may have to take a leap of faith with the BA's. The wife loves the finish and aesthetics on both speakers.

Thanks

I have not listened to the Verita's - The Boston is open, transparent and
dynamic - with very good detail, definition and depth. The tweeter is very
revealing and smooth - However, poor and nasty recordings, will sound
poor and nasty. I do not want a speaker to hide anything. They also have
very good on axis and off axis response. The bass is realistic, tight and is
controlled. Something like Rythmik or HSU, is a good option. You can save
for the sub, if funds are limited.
The differences in receiver processing is minor - as far as bright or warm.
All you need is good clean power.

This is the little brother - VS 240

Thanks Zieg. You are a class act. A few more questions:

1. Could you recommend a stand for the BA VS 260; maybe off amazon or something??

2. A 2 channel amp with good clean power for under $300; of course the cheaper the better.....;)

3. Vanns the most popular internet dealer with the best prices for BA? Any chance the vs 260's will drop more than $299 a piece?

I may just forget about demo'g the Energy's. I have to drive 1.5 hours w/o traffic to sit and listen. Plus, the wife is leaning towards Boston's for aesthetics anyway. We shall see.

Cheers

The Boston use to be $699 each - and they are moving, I do not think
the price will drop any more. Hard to find any where else.

For 2 channel listening and a good price
Emotiva amp

Harman Kardon receiver

For stands, look on Amazon - make sure they will handle 9" wide and
10 1/2" deep. You want the tweeter to be about ear level, when you
sit down.
