BOSE question

I have an old acoustimass (5.1) system I'm moving to a new room my WIFE got me some time back. 2 questions:

A- do the speakers have to be run through the sub, or can I hook it all directly to the receiver???

B- I'd like to replace is ASAP what speakers do you recommend?? They have to be small...can be slightly larger than the Bose??

Pretty sure you have to hook them up the way BOSE instructs.

I'll second Mordaunt Short, and add Morel SoundSpot, KEF KHT3005, KEF KHT1005 and Canton CD1.

Thanks guys, I'll research these. Budget will be about $1500-2000 for 5 spkrs and sub.

I had to run different wire than what the system came with and I need to figure out how to get the speaker wire into the plug in adpter.

I'll second Mordaunt Short, and add Morel SoundSpot, KEF KHT3005, KEF KHT1005 and Canton CD1.

Canton's satellite speakers are pretty slick, I have had mine for 3 years. Depending on what you are expecting to get out of them they are great speakers.
