Hello Guys,

I recently upgraded my AVR from RX-V2095 to RX-v2400.I am using Bose 901 as Main speaker(A) with active equalizer and it sound good with 2095.Now my problem is i cannot use anymore the "active equalizer" on 2400.tried the YPAO but still not impressed with the sound after the calibration...sound's like something still missing.Only thing i could do is use the 6 ch.input for front but still not a solution.
Is there a way i could integrate the active equalizer for the 901 with 2400 without compromising the DCP.
Apperiate any suggestion.

That's one problem with modern receivers. I imagine previously you were using either a Processor Loop or the tape monitor? Maybe someone more familiar with your receiver can help you, but I doubt there's a good way to integrate the EQ with your Yammie. Not unless you use the Yammie as a prepro and add an amp.

The 901s really need that EQ, too, to get any sembelance of flat sound. It takes a lot of equalization since the drivers are too small to indivually produce much bass and too large for flat treble & good dispersion.

Maybe someone here has a suggestion, but I'm not real optimistic.

If the Yammie receiver has jumpers between main out and power in the eq could be connected there. It might not be best for the S/N ratio but it's worth a try. I could say get rid of the 901's but if you like them that's what matters.

I didn't want to be the first to say it, but you may want to consider it. There's a lot better out there, and if you're upgrading anyway it might be time to listen to what's out there. How long have you had your 901s? A good friend of mine had those same speakers, and he was stunned when he first heard my system. He & I went out speaker shopping and he found speakers he liked much better than his 901s for about 1/2 of what they had cost him new.

Just a thought.

As was stated, placing your EQ between the pre out/main in is the way to go if you have that capability.
Not to worry about your speakers if you like them. That is strictly a personal preference issue. :)

Hopefully someone can chime in that has that model. Preout/main-in is pretty rare on HT receivers nowadays. If the Yammie won't do that, then really the only options are: 1) use the 901s w/o the EQ, 2) use the Yammie preouts & buy an amp, installing the EQ between rec & amp, or 3) buying new speakers.

If you do the latter, there's lots of good brands. And if after comparing different lines you still like the sound of your current speakers, they make other more conventional models that don't require EQ. You could probably resell yours on Ebay for a fair amount, too. That's the one good thing about the 901s- they're somewhat in demand.

One note: if your 901s are over 10 years old, you really should consider replacing them. I know a couple guys personally (and several more via the 'net) who've had the foam driver surrounds rot away on their 901s. Older foam, such as used in that model, has a limited lifespan, and it's extremely rare for them to last much beyond 15 years. You can refoam them, and indeed one buddy of mine did. But he complained that they never sounded the same after. That makes sense- a driver is a machine, and it's unlikely that any aftermarket foam kit will have the same compliance as the stock ones. Incidentally, the problem is common to all the brands of the time (CV and Advents are two brands you often see refoam kits for).

I am not seeing what he needs. It has outputs but no inputs for main channels. This is from the international list.

Thanks for all the reply..it really help.
I must have overlook it when i bought it on AAFES,even check it on the YAMAHA site.I was under impression that it would still have that Pre-out Coupler.Well anyway i already have the unit and last night i tried to tweak the EQ settings and level of the sub...it help, but still cannot reach the level of satisfaction i have before. My 901 is about four years,i'll still satisfied with the way it sound.I will try to find some speakers which could match 901..which i know there is,just need time and money.Or maybe i'll wait for YAMAHA to release a new version of RX-V3300.

Thanks a lot for all who reply...you guys are great help..more power!!!

No problem- although I think a new version won't help. The receiver market is moving away from 2 Ch stereo, which means a newer version is even more unlikely to support a processor loop. You could of course go for a budget preamp & amp...

But realistically, I urge you to reconsider your speaker choices. There really is a world of stuff out there better than the 901's. At least look around.

I chedcked out one or two other receivers at Yam site and didn't see the main in bars. Rob is right, again. The only other way to use the EQ is an external amp as your unit does have the pre outs, it seems.
