I was looking at the Bose 201 & 301 to use as my main left/right channel speakers. However, I read up on them and they are not magnetically shielded.

Can anyone tell me if I should spend money on 1 of these 2 products or look for something better?

If you will run a search in this forum for "bose", you'll see a lot of negative posts about these speakers (with good reason). Within these posts, you'll also find lots of recommendations for alternatives...many of which will be within your budget.

You could do better with just about any other speaker on the market.

Some of my personal favorites are Mirage, NHT, KEF, and Dynaudio.

One good alternative that is offered at my store is Polk Audio!

The Monitor 40's will be comparable to the 301's and the Monitor 30's will be comparable to the 201's in price, but the Bose is far inferior in sound quality... And the Polks are a bit cheaper!
