Borrowing ideas from other movies...

Now that the WOW factor's wore off a bit from Blu-Ray weekend of Iron Man and Hulk, something suddenly dawned on me. I watched both and there was something gnawing at me that I couldn't quite get... then it hit me this morning. Both movie's final battles seemed to borrow a lot conceptually from other movies.

First, in Iron Man, I thought the final battle concept was very similar to the old Robocop (maybe Robocop2) fight scene... a man-sized hero fighting a supersized version. Even the sound effect... the chattering gear sound was almost exactly the same.

With the Hulk, I was reminded of the fight scene with Dr. Jeckyl in League of Extradordinary Gentlemen, were the Dr. Jeckyl fought a supersized version just like in the Hulk.

Anyway, I thought the parallels were interesting. For me, it doesn't take away from the movies at all, but it does kinda make me wish they'd go for something more original. Maybe we're just all running out of ideas.

They all sound like David versus Goliath to me. :) I doubt that story was the original version of such a conflict, either. The "little guy" taking on a large and imposing force is something that rings true for a lot us, I think - both now and in the distant past.

What do you expect from a comic book based movie? That is what is in the comics, so the movie isn't going to depart from that. There are plenty of comics that go well beyond that sort of thing, but they are trying to appeal to a mass audience.

Yeah I get that, but the similarity in how it was done was a bit striking. Just an observation more than complaint.

Yes, I thought the same thing. "I've seen this before..." but I didn't really fault the movies too much. If they keep it up, it will get old though.

Espeically with HULK, it was very much the exact same thing... the foe takes more of the what caused the good guy to become what he was. The supersized version from HULK and League actually look very similar even.

it's still an awsome movie so I don't care. I'm just fired up now for the next installments.
